How does our in home euthanasia process work?

1. When our doctor arrives

The doctor will get to know you and your pet, perform a short assessment of your pet's health, and answer any questions you may have surrounding in home euthanasia. The process can take place indoors or outdoors, wherever your pet is most comfortable.

2. When you are ready & your pet is resting peacefully

The doctor will administer an appropriate level of sedation to let them sleep and ease their pain or discomfort.

After your pet is resting peacefully, a simple injectable euthanasia solution will be given and your pet will gently drift into their peaceful transition.

3. After your pet has peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge

You and your family will be given privacy to say your final goodbyes - this is not rushed, and you can take as much time as you need. When you are ready, the doctor will come in and speak with you about the aftercare of your pet.

4. If we are handling the aftercare

After you have said your goodbyes, if we are handling the aftercare, the doctor will come in with either a blanket or stretcher to place your pet in their vehicle to transport them to the crematorium. They will go through the process with you and provide you with information on how and when your pet's ashes will be ready to come home.

Our Veterinarians

Melinda Morency, DVM

Dr. Melinda Morency was born in Nashville, TN. Her love for animals started literally in the crib, as the family’s cocker spaniel gave birth to puppies one night below the crib where Dr. Melinda was sleeping in. When Dr. Melinda was 8, her beloved basset hound, Humphrey, developed a severe anaphylactic reaction to a possible bee sting. He was rushed to the vet, who promptly saved his life. From that point on, Dr. Melinda dreamed of no other career. She graduated from the University of Tennessee-Martin with a bachelor's degree in agriculture, and 4 years later, realized her dream by graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.

Over the next 14 years, Dr. Melinda lived in Maryville, Tennessee and Seattle, Washington. She moved back to Nashville in 2017 with her husband and two children. During her time in practice, Dr. Melinda has worked at several small animal veterinary clinics, and has worked in general preventative care, emergency medicine, has performed high volume spay and neuter surgeries, and most recently worked at an urgent care veterinary clinic. Throughout all these experiences, her passion has been to provide compassionate care to both her patients and her clients. Although often the most emotional part of her job in any of these settings, she has found that providing a peaceful euthanasia experience to her patients has been incredibly rewarding. She feels that being able to visit with pets in the environment they feel most comfortable, surrounded by the people they love and who love them, is key to providing the best experience possible. This is why she is excited to join Home With Dignity.

In addition to being a veterinarian, Dr. Melinda is a wife, mother, and Scout Master in Scouting America. Helping raise and prepare the next generation for life and leadership is another incredibly rewarding passion in her life. Finally, Dr. Melinda loves to travel and explore new areas of the US, as well as the world. She has been to over 300 National Park units with her family, and hopes to visit all of them (423, at last count) one day.
